Justice Hughes of the Supreme Court declines to run for president on the Republican ticket as listed on Nebraska's official primary ballot. He asks the Nebraska Secretary of State to remove his name from the ballot.
Greencastle Nov 18 Jackson Boyd resigns as Progressive State Committee chairman resigning a month ago. He says party leaders took control from the State Committee and appointed Edward Lee in his stead. Boyd remains loyal to the party.
Washington reports an affidavit from Dr. Cecile Greil the only American known to have survived the Ancona sinking. The document states the vessel was shelled by a submarine for forty five minutes after it stopped with many dead and wounded. Officials expect protests as the State Department awaits more evidence.
The Bedford Concert Orchestra, organized a year ago, resumes rehearsals after a summer break to prepare a series of concerts this winter. Listeners who heard them last winter will be glad to know rehearsals continue and the coming performances will be even better.
Game wardens file a charge against Elza Fowler for hunting without the required license. Authorities say the case involves alleged illegal wildlife pursuit and a violation of state hunting regulations. Fowler was summoned to appear in court to answer the charge.
Kokomo basketball comes to Bedford High Friday night with a main game at 8 15 p m between Kokomo and Bedford High School. A supporting game features Oolitic versus Needmore and Owensburg at 7 30 p m. Bleachers have been expanded boosting gym capacity to 900 seats, plus room for 1000 with standing.

City authorities mill owners and the lighting company appeared before the Public Service Commission in Indianapolis to discuss the Southern Indiana Power Company rate increase. No decision was reached and no announcement will be made until further rate changes are proposed. bills will stay at old rates for now.

A southbound freight rear ended another southbound train at the Croxton Mill switch in Cloverdale at 1 am. Three rear cars of the first train burned, several cars wrecked, and the engine of the second train damaged. No injuries reported.
Funeral services for Mrs. Jacob Schmizer will be held Friday at 10 o'clock from the home with Rev Lenig officiating. Burial will take place at Green Hill. Earlier plans for a 2 o'clock service were altered after a message from Mrs. Abbie Mitchell in Oklahoma.

J W Anthony a prominent farmer and business man living six miles north of Freetown arrived in Bedford on a business trip. After forty five years near the city he saw large trains of stone and plans to return to tour the quarries and stone mills which exceed his prior dreams, having never seen a quarry in operation.

Louis Willson and Miss Pearl Branaman, both of Ft Ritner, were married at 11:30 Thursday morning by Justice Malott in his J street office. They will reside in Ft Ritner.

John Crawford aged several years, a veteran of the Lawrence Grays who served at Buena Vista, died at his home in Kansas Tuesday morning after a long illness. He moved from North Carolina to Lawrence County in youth, later changing residence and working in the hotel trade. He was the father of Mrs. William Coster and leaves a widow and several grown children.

Henry MelIntire Millard F Norman and Bart Kindred were Tuesday laying out and viewing a macadam road on the line between Shanswick and Guthrie townships. Warren McCray of Kentland Indiana, Republican gubernatorial candidate, was expected in the city Tuesday evening to stay several days with his nephew James Rathburn. After visiting Mr and Mrs Peter Burke, Misses Margaret and Mary McConnell returned to Bedford.
