Paris reports a French official statement that Bulgarians are being driven south of Serbia by enemy forces and are retreating. The dispatch notes continued pressure on the Balkans as troops maneuver in the area.
Athens informs Premier of a urgent request from en tente ministers defining Greece position toward Allies actions in the Balkans. Note is friendly but stresses the need for prompt decision.
United Press reports Henry Ford announced he has chartered a ship for a forthcoming voyage.Details on destination or purpose were not provided in the brief dispatch.
In State of Indiana vs. Mike Battellea the defendant pled guilty to assault and was fined $3 and costs by Judge Swails. A surety of the peace against Battellea was dismissed with costs charged to Tony Rock. A larceny and other assault charges by Rock were disposed of by dismissal with costs.
Sallie Alvey was found not guilty after a Monday assault and battery case, with Judge Swails issuing the verdict under advisement status. Hall vs Short drilling dispute began and was compromised in circuit court Wednesday morning. Elizie Fowler was discharged Wednesday afternoon for hunting without a license on a technicality. Marriage license issued for Claude Holtsclaw and Blanche E. Thomas, both of Oolitic.
Thorntown, state basketball champions, bring six of seven title players for a Friday night clash with undefeated Bedford High School at the high school gym. Bedford, fresh off a win over Kokomo, hosts a 7:30 curtain raiser with Mitchell first team and Bedford second. The main game tips at 8:15.
Calvin Johnson a well to do farmer aged 46 living north of Mitchell three miles in Rabbitville neighborhood was stricken with paralysis Tuesday near his home. He died shortly after the stroke and left a wife. He lost an arm in a prior accident and funeral plans are not known. The body may be taken to the north part of the state for burial.
Impressive funeral rites for Adolph F. W. Meissner were conducted Wednesday at his N street home with Rev. Frank Lenig delivering solace. Floral tributes came from relatives and friends in the city and from Chicago and Crab Orchard Ky. Hymns were sung by Mrs. Haas and Miss Helen Gibson, with Mrs. J. M. Winstandley at the piano. Pallbearers included David Fuller, George Gratzer, John Freel, Frank Thomas, Andrew Linsay and John Quayle. Burial followed at Green Hill cemetery. A ratification meeting by the Dry faction, postponed to Sunday at 2:30, will be held in the Stone City Opera House. Levi Gill, charged with intoxication, was discharged.
Goldie Ramsey through attorney W E Clark filed for divorce from Harry L Ramsey in Lawrence circuit court. The couple married in 1912 and separated the same year with the defendant living apart without cause, unknown whereabouts, and no alimony provision.

The child died, the guardian refiled, then the child again died, causing the suit to be halted though potentially reopenable with a proper method.

An overheated stove in Floyd McCracken’s house on West Twelfth Street caused paper in an adjacent room to burn and create a small blaze. Central Fire Department responded but the fire burned out before further damage. The house owned by Juli Shasoh was not damaged. Also noted is the adoption of a tax assessment for Sewer District No. 3 at Tuesday night meeting.
