Early Planting Boosts Ensilage Corn Yields
The Office of Corn Investigations urges Northern dairymen to plant large ensilage varieties from Virginia or Missouri in April or early May to gain sturdier growth, better frost resistance, and higher grain and ensilage quality. Home grown varieties need not be planted unusually early. Early cultivation warms the soil, speeds growth, and improves profitability, while fall frosts remain the main hazard.
