The Mitchell War Loan Organization reports its Victory Notes quota oversubscribed in Marion township within two hours. Director of Sales Harry Chapple said early figures suggest collecting more than five thousand dollars over the target as the drive continues this evening.
Irmina S McDonald aged 45 wife of Otis McDonald died at home on West Nineteenth Street of organic heart trouble. Funeral arrangements have not yet been made.
A local committee appointed by H W McKane of the State Board will lead a campaign against venereal diseases in the city. The council previously approved quarantines and health measures and a free clinic is planned. Rev S Se Lappin chairs, with Prof WL Montgomery and John A Rowe among members to recruit delegates from lodges clubs churches and groups for education and outreach.
Merry Gowen files habeas corpus against Dr. Harvey Voxyles and health secretary to force release from quarantine. She alleges a quarantine on her grandmother Mrs. Susan Gowen’s premises began April 11, Ms Gowen recovered April 22, and claims unlawful restraint.

The Council of Defense reports twenty two months of war activities with expenditures totaling 665 in county funds. The county government and newspapers are commended for patriotic support and free advertising. The work included a Patriot Fund, war conference, speeches across the county, and saving 2060 bushels of grain through threshing efforts. A lasting record of every county soldier will be kept in the public library.
