Paris May 1 Chinese Ambassador Dr Wellington Koo leading the delegation said recognition of Japan's claims to Shantung peninsula is unsatisfactory to China. He noted Japan is understood to have secured important concessions on the China Japan matter despite President Wilson's declarations.
Paris May 1 The agreement on Japanese claims on the Shantung peninsula assures the Allied Powers will sign the treaty within forty eight hours regardless of Italy's position.
Washington May 1 The fragmentary sections of the peace treaty to be signed by the Central powers have reached the State Department, according to officials.
A bomb addressed to Senator Lee Overman of North Carolina was found and held at the Salisbury, North Carolina, post office, per the Post Office Department announcement dated May 1.

Oscar Medaris, a Bedford resident, was acquitted of the murder of Howard Taylor. He was released from custody at 2 PM Wednesday, accompanied by his wife, after a jury verdict returned Tuesday night. The defense pleaded temporary insanity and Judge Miers ruled Medaris sane at release, with potential future steps if found unsound.

A telegram to A. J. McDonald of the county council of defense confirms Indianapolis will host a large soldiers homecoming on Wednesday May 7. A Lawrence County council meeting on Saturday May 3 will decide on funding to cover expenses for every county soldier attending the event.
Calvin Burton of Indianapolis was riding a motorcycle Thursday in the city at a speed greater than permitted and was arrested by Traffic Officer Butler. He paid a $1 fine and costs in Mayor Allen's court.

Mrs Ray Denniston received a message from her husband overseas saying he had arrived safely after nine months and would be sent to the camp near home to be mustered out. Walter S Sipes told his sister Pearl Sipes in Springville that he arrived safely in New York and expects to be sent home soon.
Noted violinist Isolde Menges performed a two hour recital at the First Christian Church in Bedford to inaugurate the National Victory Jubilee drive of the Woman’s Christian Temperance Union. The decor featured greenery and calla lilies. Menges delivered powerful tone and expressive playing with encores amid enthusiastic audience praise.
The Fayetteville High School junior class hosted a senior class banquet with a "Through the Telescope" feature forecasting the future for seniors and faculty. Guests included Mona Pitman and Estus Day among others. events also announced upcoming Baccalaureate at the Fayetteville church and an evening entertainment for senior fund support plus Class Day exercises with histories and prophecies.
