The Daily and Weekly Mail unveils a new home across from its old building with a Duplex press and Linotype No 8, enabling faster print runs up to 5,000 copies per hour. The upgrade replaces seven printers, adds tabloid sized pages, and marks Bedford's newspaper as a modern, self funded, community asset with a long legacy since 1872.
The new Bedford daily and weekly mail building sits opposite the old office on east W 6th Street. It measures 43 by 134 feet with brick and stone façade, large windows, two skylights, a cement floor, and a steel ceiling. Built for printing, it features a hot water plant for winter heat and is touted as the handsomest and best arranged printing office in the state.
The new Duplex press prints the Daily edition in eighteen minutes at a rate of 6 000 per hour, replacing the old cylinder press that took ninety minutes and printed one side. The improved press, though costly, was needed because circulation has increased and is visible in operation each afternoon around four o clock.
The Mail installs the latest Linotype model No. and highlights its efficiency. One operator replaces five or six compositors, improving speed and headlining. The device produces clean sharp type daily and recycles moulds for continuous use, hailed as a mechanical marvel of the age.
John Chastain and Orville Cline of the J. Rowe mill in this city survived a close brush with a whirling line shaft when power was applied without their knowledge. Both escaped serious injury though Cline suffered head and shoulder bruises and Chastain a badly wrenched arm as they were fastening a pulley and the machinery was started. Both men were able to be out Friday.
All but one victim of the C T I S E wreck east of the city have returned home. E H Hancock remains in Cottom Hospital with a broken ankle and is resting well. Hancock plans to go home to Seymour once healing allows. William Singminger of Cleveland resumes travel after nursing a shoulder injury. A A Barker goes home to Madison despite pain before arrival.
A wreck occurred on the Southeastern Main Line Thursday night at 8 o'clock. Authorities reported the track was clear after the incident and cleanup proceeded along the route.
The wrecking crew of the South eastern Line cleared the track east of the city by 8 p.m. Thursday. No. 6 was delayed about two hours before the line resumed its regular schedule on Friday and all trains ran on time.
David Hodges of Oolitic suffered a severe hand laceration Friday while at work at the P. M. & 3. Quarry. He slipped and fell backward onto an upturned drill. initial reports claimed a broken bone, but doctors said no bones were broken though the flesh was badly cut.
William Kingman arrived back in town after a business trip to Chicago. He was welcomed by family and neighbors at the railway station with light applause.

Activities include speaking, foot and barrel races, two ball games, music, and park hours from day into night. laboring men urged to bring baskets.
Frankfort Blue Grass League pitcher Billy Creamer and catcher Mike Giddo are sought by Louisville in negotiations reported by the Cincinnati Enquirer. Frankfort officials hold firm on price despite interest, with Creamer described as a Reds failure and Grayson of Louisville pursuing release from Frankfort at too high a asking price.
The one year old son of Mr and Mrs le cier Lewis died at home in Oolitic Friday at 7 30 PM. The family income and full details remain unclear in the report.
