Chicago April 15 Judge Kohlsaar of the United States Circuit Court of appeals refused the petition of Terre Haute election conspirators for a bond reduction. They are held in the Marion County jail awaiting trial.
Indianapolis April 15 United Press reports Sheriff Shea a convicted election conspirator formally resigns from office and withdraws from appeals He plans to go to Leavenworth to serve a five year term and pay a $1000 fine.
Frank T. Sherwood a West Side Tobacconist and angler caught a Muscalonge in Guthrie Creek near the bridge on Wednesday. The fish measured about 3 1/2 feet and weighed roughly nine pounds. He wrestled with hooks in finger coat and boot before securing the catch to a bush and freeing himself. The tale ends with Sherwood saying he feels worse than after a war due to the ordeal.
The State v Ganssin set for April 27 for alleged liquor law violation. The State v Blackwell pending. date not set. The State v Kramer set for Friday with jury attendance ordered. Hutchinson v Hutchinson civil suit set for Saturday before Special Judge John H Edwards. Virginia Goldsborough, daughter of Mr and Mrs W H Goldsborough, improved from pneumonia.
Washington faces Bedford in a dual debate on April 16 at 7:30 p m in the high school assembly room on increasing national defenses. Six debaters split affirmative and negative sides. The first high school track and field meet of the season is set for April 17 at 2 p m on the Sedimentation Basin track featuring sprint distances, distance runs, jumps, throws, and relays.
A health notice reports a patient becoming very ill after a surgical operation intended to relieve a hernia. The report notes complications during the recovery period and ongoing medical supervision.
Word reaches Bedford of Emmett Sutherland’s critical condition after hernia surgery in Columbus Indiana. His recovery is not expected, with a death report anticipated at any hour. he is a brother of Jap Malott and brother-in-law to Lise Pearson, longtime Bedford resident with ties to Springville and the local hardware trade.
Relative to Pat Kennedy a Southeastern engineer and Bedford resident announced his death in the Odon railroad coach toilet Thursday. Kennedy a popular 45 year old man weighing about 250 pounds was thought to have heart trouble. His body was taken to Terre Haute and later to Bedford for funeral arrangements after relatives were notified. Eric V Riley and Farle Bowden wed at Inglewood with a quiet ceremony at 6 30 pm in the Riley home officiated by Rev Andrew Haste.
Memorial services for L O Moose set for Sunday April 18 at 2 PM at the opera house with Bedford Concert Band. Arthur H Jones of Anderson Indiana will deliver the memorial address. All members to meet at the lodge room at 1 PM to march to the opera house.
Mrs Henry Hartman traveled to Odon thinking her brother-in-law died. Word later confirmed Patrick Cannedy, the well known South Eastern Railway engineer, died last night of heart trouble. A daughter of Mrs Ben Roghe Na street remains ill.
Mort Durcan returned to Terre Haute on Thursday to resume his role as Southeastern passereer brakeman after recovering from a sun and illness illness. He had been at his home during his convalescence.
EF Bowden of Bedford and Eric Riley of Bedford obtain a marriage license. Jacob Queal, a prominent farmer from near Kurtz, reports wheat 50 percent better after recent rains and says the crop would have nearly failed otherwise. David E McNabb of Huron also visited the city Thursday.
The Lawrence Circuit Court jury found Ed Coulter guilty of forging checks after a two day trial ending Wednesday night. A new trial motion will be filed later, delayed by attorney absence. Coulter is jailed pending the motion, with a related charge against his two daughters likely not pursued.
John W Owens died suddenly at 12 30 AM Thursday at his daughter Mrs Spencer K Norton s home on Fourteenth Street after a three year illness. Born December 5 1854 two miles north of the city he married Armilda Kenrick and later Laura Jordan of Fayetteville. Survived by widow two daughters Ella Adams on Fayetteville area and Elizabeth Norton, two brothers and one sister. Funeral Saturday at 10 AM from 1205 M Street with burial at Green Hill.
The Treasury redirects public building plans as Acting Secretary Byron Newton suspends site procurement in Indiana and other states. Cities eyed for post office sites include Decatur Lin ton Noblesville Lebanon Greensburg Plymouth Warsaw and Salem with funds previously allotted now postponed indefinitely.
