John Stinkard of Oolitic went to Bastile Rimgelf on Wednesday aiming to jail a personal enemy. He believed a warrant existed and pressed the matter until arraigned for provoking Sheriff Sitler. He pleaded guilty and was fined five dollars plus costs, then jailed until payment or getaway.
Torpay Wanes charged with attempted homicide with intent to maim. Court arraignment and trial scheduled April 25. Incident followed a knife attack on Mayor Fields after a confrontation in the Prosecutor Underwood’s office.
A southbound Monon train No. 4 stopped at Sanders Wednesday noon when an extra freight of ten cars backed into the rear of the local. No one was in the caboose or the second car. The engineer failed to see the local in time to stop.
The Monon Railroad reports heavy coal and freight movements to aid flood areas. Trains carried meat, provisions, and strawber ries for victims in Dayton Columbus Cincinnati and southern points. Mrs Emma Bowman files for absolute divorce from Tyree Bowman in Lawrence circuit court alleging cruel and inhuman treatment since their marriage on January 5 1892 and separation on April 9 1913. She seeks custody of their daughter and financial support from the defendant.
Everett Watson and his wife and two children at Needmore are ill. Watson is critically ill with plurisy while his wife and two children have measles in an unusually unfortunate family health case.
Jesse McKnight was fined 1 for intoxication plus costs after being taken in by Chief Woodruff on Wednesday afternoon. Pat Herlihy also paid 1 and costs in police court on Thursday for intoxication, after sustaining a nasty wound over the eye from a fall on 1 street Wednesday.
The Doreas Society Flood Relief Committee reports strong female response with clothing and supplies arriving at Mrs Elizabeth Dunihue home West 16th Street. Men urged to donate cash via Bedford National Bank as receiving agent for relief fund.
The House met in caucus at 11 p m and adjourned to 12 30 p m to hear the president's message then adjourned until Thursday. The Senate reported 144 bills including a measure making it a felony to sell goods below cost to stifle competition and several other proposals.
The Southern Indiana Power Company reports Williams plant, which has been shut since the floodwaters damaged generators, will restore power to some customers today after a lengthy drying period.
Eight month old son of Mrs. Hattie Kinder, living near Williams, was taken to an Indianapolis orphan asylum by Mrs. C. H. Emery under custody of the Board of Childrens Guardians. The parents had separated for a year, the mother lost belongings in the flood, and the father has been contributing to support. The child was turned over voluntarily and a court action may involve the father before placement with a family is decided.
Bedford’s Prudential branch reports leading all U S and Canada offices in insurance written for 1913 up to now with a standout week pushing over 100 000. The Home Office buildings use Bedford stone, underscoring local prosperity and the company’s prestige nationwide.
Clinton Hovious, a Bloomington resident and former special policeman, was convicted of manslaughter for shooting Frank Todd ex Fire Chief during a scuffle at Todd’s home. Todd was married to Hovious’ former wife. The jury deliberated Tuesday afternoon and returned a verdict early Thursday. Hovious faces a 2 to 21 year sentence.
