Red Head School Closes Near Blockton Friday

Red Head School in the Red Head district west of Blockton closed Friday with a band of pupils and patrons enjoying a final pic. Beer permits were issued this week in Blockton to William Waugh of the Waugh cafe. Many locals and visitors from Mount Ayr and nearby towns gathered for the closing and social events at various homes and gatherings in Blockton and surrounding areas.

Mt Pleasant School Closes Friday Picnic and Anecdotes

Mt Pleasant notes show Friday closure for the school while Miss Ed Nickle and several pupils shared a picnic and noon roast. The Larson team won a kitten game 7 to 1 amid visits by Irma Robey, Helen and Lou Horton. Families and residents, including the Geerands, Wells, Moellenberndts, and Streams, spread across local homes.

Lenox Junior-Senior Banquet and Activities Recap

The Lenox Junior-Senior banquet was held in the United Presbyterian church basement with a music themed program. Gail Potts hosted and Helen Austene led songs while seniors and faculty enjoyed a menu including escalloped chicken and Martha Washington pie.

Short services for O P Essley held in Lenox

Short services were held Thursday morning at the O P Arnold funeral home for O P Essley. Burial was in Fairview cemetery. A former Lenox resident, he had lived in Long Beach California for fifteen years with his daughter Mrs Jennie Kennedy who accompanied the body to Lenox.

Community celebration honors Mrs. J. A. Jones

Mrs. J. A. Jones was an honored guest Sunday as her children and relatives gathered to help celebrate. Attendees included Mr. and Mrs. L. W. McFee and family, Mrs. Nellie Bryant and son Robert, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Brokew and family, and Mr. and Mrs. John Borland.

Death of Dave McMaster Suprised Community

A report notes the death of Dave McMaster occurred unexpectedly on Monday morning. Mrs Borland returned home in the evening and Mrs Jones stayed until after the funeral. Mr and Mrs George Black are visiting this week at the home of their son and his wife in Des Moines.

Missionary Society Birthday Party at Aurora McIntyre home

Members of the Aurora McIntyre Missionary Society celebrated a birthday party Saturday at Mrs Everett Kennedys home. Attendees included Mrs Everett Kennedy Mrs K R Huff Mrs Ben Walter and out of town guests Mrs Jennie Kennedy from Long Beach Calif and Miss Aurora McIntyre a Sudan missionary Home hosts served ice cream cookies and coffee.
