Afternoon service at the uterian church featured Mrs Blanch ewood and Mrs Nell Butler leading a Mothers of the Bible devotional by Mrs Bessie Underwood. Awards named for Nathan Baker and Kathryn Young highlighted a school year with strong attendance and honor rolls. The Sharpsburg high school team lost at Corning, with reports on attendance and honor rolls for both high school and grades.
The Sharpsburg young people's Sunday school classes held a party at Grace and Irene Ginns Friday evening with twenty seven members enjoying house and party games. Guests included Evelyn Morley Edith Slack Blythe Damewood and others. Refreshments of angel food cake whipped cream pineapple and nuts coffee were served by Martha Beckett and Margaret Damewood.
John Dunn 77 died Thursday at his Pomona California home. Funeral services set for 2 p m Friday at Pruitt Funeral Home Clarinda. Survived by three sons Wes Roscoe and Perry Dunn, all Conway residents. Several relatives visited family and friends over the weekend in Bedford Lenox Sharpsburg and Graham Missouri.
Mrs. C. W. Farmer hosted the Philathea class with twenty five members and two guests. After the lesson led by Mrs. W. W. Palmer, a business session and social hour followed with refreshments served. Virginia Myers Gets Degree. Virginia Myers attended May Fete in Maryville Missouri and Mothers Day at State Teachers College where her daughters Virginia and Stella study. Virginia graduates this year with a B S degree.
S D Weller father of Mrs Orval Norton died Saturday night Funeral services were held in Gravity Tuesday afternoon where burial was made Other local notes include Aetna Life Insurance carpenters repairing Taylor county farms and several social visits among local families including Eastern Star group meetings Home Guard Girls and ministers gathering in Corning with visits to Fontanelle and nearby towns
Dean Hunter won the first grade word drill and Richard Beckett won the second grade. Dean Beamer took the first grade number contest while Robert Norton won the second grade. Helen Jean Robinson and Ar Jene Robinson visited our team Tuesday, followed by Dorothy Robinson and Norma Robinson on Wednesday. The grade program was presented Friday afternoon.
The Sharpsburg school closed last week with class night and eighth grade graduation. The Senior class of 1933 presented A Senior Dream in two scenes, while seventh and eighth graders performed A Doctor For A Day. Supt Rutledge praised the school’s county honors and presented awards for baseball, basketball, and temperance essays. Eighth grade diplomas were awarded, and Dan W Turner delivered the commencement address. Names of scholars and prize recipients include Martin Moser, Alvin McKay, Nathan Baker, Wy Grimm, Bob Griffith, Max Smith, Lyle Pfander, Elvin Sayers, Kenneth John, Johnnie Wert, Kathryn Young, Philpott, and Teona Blood.
The eighth grade plays were well attended Tuesday night with a large cast including Julian Hewitt Richard Cooper Reginald Peters Thomas Ginn Joe Johnson Leo O Grady Annie Peters Katherine Phillips Molly Peters Harriet Evans and others. Music was provided by the Farmer Orchestra and several grades plus Max Hunter and William Hewitt. A one act play featured Evelyn De Vere Thelma Palsley Ralph Grayson Charles Farmer and others. The baccalaureate address was given Sunday evening and the Junior class decorated the church in blue and white with a large crowd in attendance.

Mary Hillers wed Denzil Jennings at Mt Ayr parsonage. Several local residents attend events in Redding, Bedford, and Des Moines. An auto crash near Blockton-Redding caused minor injuries to no one.
The Blockton teaching staff have returned to their homes after the school year. Eleanor MacDonald left for Hopkinton Iowa on Saturday morning. Wilma Giles headed to Albany Missouri while Gladys Elder departed Friday afternoon with her parents from West Liberty. Elton Gross left for Arispe and Des Moines today. Earl Landers of Des Moines is spending several days at the Cecil Oneal home. Mr. and Mrs. A. L. Livingston visited Creston Sunday. Ed Adams of Forest City Missouri and their son George were Blockton visitors on Wednesday. Clarence Hogg and daughter Darlene and Fern Hartley were Maryville visitors Monday.
Hazel Dell closed for the afternoon with a school picnic and a boys against fathers baseball game. Families including the Albright and Bordner households and others spent Sunday and Saturday at various neighbors’ homes. Local residents referenced include the Beauchamp, Swaim, Smith and Rogers families with several visits and activities noted.
