Iowa farm livestock totals show 17.32 million head on January 1 1933 down 3 percent from 1932. Cattle at 4.284 million up, hogs 11.44 million down slightly, horses 955 thousand lower, sheep 1.19 million fewer. Dairy cattle numbers rise. milking cows and heifers expand while hog prices decline.
Dallas Center residents recount a Monday afternoon surprise party planned by Mrs John Mankle Jr and Mrs Ed Mankle for Mrs John Mankle in honor of her sixty first birthday. The event featured a jig saw puzzle reading of her history and a last will reading, followed by a tea towel shower and refreshments.
The W. W. club held an all day meeting with Mrs. J. D. Robbins on Thursday. A covered dish dinner was served at noon and quilting was done for the hospital. Mr. and Mrs. Wallace Jackson visited Elmer Beauchamp’s home Tuesday morning. The Rogers family spent Sunday at Elmer Beauchamp and wife’s home. A. C. Scott stayed several days last week with his son Earl Scott near Sheridan Missouri.
A Siam Masons district meeting was held in the temple with forty nine attendees. Worshipful master Ernest Gray and officers opened lodge. third degree work was demonstrated by Lloyd Whipp and F W Shields with visiting members. District lecturers Ray Hughes and Fred Melvin attended from Clarinda and Bedford. Also noted are numerous social visits, travels, PTA meeting at North Star, and local happenings including school director elections, health updates, and family visits.
Mr and Mrs Emory Davis entertained a number of guests Wednesday evening in honor of Mrs Davis brother, the well known radio singer Missouri Jack of KFEQ St Joseph.
Smith loses a horse Virgil Smith drowned Friday while aiding a fill in Page county. Samuel Reynolds spent the past week with his daughter Mrs Walter Radke and returned Sunday to New Market. County Superintendent Mrs Anna Churchill and Miss Jessie Parker state inspector of schools Cedar Falls Iowa visited Siam school Thursday. Willis Philpott of Fayettesville Ark arrived Sunday for a short visit in the F W Shields home. Mr and Mrs Alva Clayton and Daniel Duncan spent Wednesday with Elza Clayton in Gravity. Clem Fine and son Harold also noted.
March 15 report details a roll call with new member Mrs. Lee Sanborn. Activities included a Ladies Aid guest day, entertainment by local members, and plans for a St Patrick's play at Mrs. J A Lambley's home on April 5. Attendees included Dale Matheny Thurlow Round and Charles Gold. Ray Lambley returned from Savannah for treatments. his father James Lambley also stayed for a while. Mrs B F Shannon in Aurora, Illinois, suffered a paralytic stroke recently.
In second grade Joe Hogue and Richard Beckett joined Conway Schools. Several students achieved 100 percent spelling on Friday including Charles Marshall Richard Beckett Joe Hogue Jackie Rose brough Harlan Brown Rachel McCurdy and Robert Norton. One girl present only Rachel McCurdy while four girls were absent. Fourth grade perfects Arlene Pullen and Wilma Donaldson. Third grade perfects Doyle Robinson Robbie Phillips Doris Delaney Effie Ellen Simmons Ona Hogue and Aileen Wintermute. Eugene Garoutte left for Sharpsburg. Week officers for grades five and six are Dorothy Beckett Mavis Farmer Betty Beemer Genevieve Stafford Lyle Fine and Lloyd Boham.
The final grade declamatory contest Thursday night featured dramatic and humorous readings by Wilma Donaldson Norma Jean Miller Helen Straight and others. Helen Straight won first prize overall with Bob by Shafto while Lloyd Boham placed second with The Bear Story.
Athelstan visitors and moves unfold as Horace Black and family travel to Isadora to visit relatives. Ed Allen relocates to a farm near Sheridan owned by Guy Stingley. Grace Hays hosts guests from Platteville. Katherine Barber returns to St Joseph after attending M W Martins funeral. Homer Martin and Newton Long journey to Blockton and Bedford on business. Reed couple travel to Bedford to see Mrs Art King’s parents. Harold Ridgeway visits aunt F J Merriman in Clarinda. Newton Long and Jess W Martin visit Maud Barber at home. W M Chandler and son Victor make a Sheridan business trip. G W Booker and Verne Burns tour Grant City for business. Homer Martin, Jess Martin and Parker finish a Saturday business trip. P O Townsend of Bedford visits daughter Wayland Raper’s home. Hershal Scott returns home from Emerson Iowa after a few weeks’ stay.
Residents from Blockton Clarinda Sheridan and Mt. Ayr gathered Sunday visiting relatives in Bedford and nearby towns. Attendees included families of Jenkins Lantz Kobbe Tackett and Campbell among others with several distant guests attending the funeral of M. W. Martin. School girls chorus and eighth grade girls' program noted in the Advertisements.
Mrs Dora DeWolf 79 died at her Hopkins residence Saturday afternoon after years as an invalid. Funeral services were at the Masonic temple Monday, with burial in Hopkins cemetery. Survived by daughter Pearl Kennedy and two sisters Mrs Katherine DeMott and Mrs Charles Beard. Also reports political caucuses in Hopkins with Republican and Democratic selections for township offices and an ongoing Royal Theatre show by local merchants with weekly traveling company performances.
Mr and Mrs Ross Albright lost their upper story bedroom fire destroyed the Albright residence about six o clock Sunday morning plastering fell on their bed they barely escaped before the roof caved in the blaze likely smoldered in the attic overnight contents were insured and partially covered by insurance attending notices of visitors and local gardening and plowing activities follow. no clothing saved
Miss Pauline Edwards daughter of Mr and Mrs Purl Edwards and Curtis Webb son of Mr and Mrs Oscar Webb were married Tuesday afternoon March 14 at five at Rev W C Clark home in Maryville The groom a Maryville High School graduate they will live in Hopkins Howard Albright and Miss Mildred Ulmer daughter of Mr and Mrs Frank Ulmer of Maryville and Howard Albright son of Mr and Mrs Ross Albright were married in Savannah Thursday afternoon The couple reside in Hopkins Florence Seat visited her parents Mr and Mrs George Seat at Grant City last weekend

Plans are being made for a Vacation Bible School at the Baptist church with sessions likely organized by church leaders and volunteers to welcome children during the coming church season.
The Taylor County Board of Supervisors convened in adjourned session at Bedford with all members present. They approved numerous expense claims for the poor fund and county operations and adopted a relief resolution directing a request to the Governor to apply to the Reconstruction Finance Corporation for eight thousand eight hundred nineteen dollars for March and April relief.
