Marsells Mark 38th Wedding Anniversary

Sunday March 12 marked the thirty eighth wedding anniversary of Mr and Mrs J B Marsell. Relatives and friends surprised them at home after church with a dinner. Attending were numerous family members including Thelma Pullan Leafy Pace C O Hicks D H Hicks J M Shore and family plus others from LeRoy Des Moines and Bedford areas.

In New Market at the annual school election on Monday afternoon Frank Steele and John Godfrey won three year terms on the board of education while Ralph Kendrick was elected for one year Those on the opposing ticket were Ralph Dougherty Monroe Shore and Frank Savage

Funeral for Gerald Wade Jackson in New Market

Gerald Wade Jackson seven son of Mr and Mrs William Jackson of New Market died Tuesday March 7 after a months long illness He is survived by his parents a brother Max grandparents Mr and Mrs C C Jackson and Mr and Mrs F M Brown funeral services were conducted by Rev L M Kirby Thursday afternoon at the Methodist church Burial was in Memory cemetery The Quilting club met Wednesday for an all day meeting at Mrs Ralph Kendricks home Those present included Mrs Hubert Corbin Mrs James Pullan Jr of Clarinda Mrs John Fuller Mrs Frank Savage Mrs Jessie Hicks Mrs James Pullan Sr Mrs Smith Brooks Mrs Earlie and Mrs Ralph Kendrick

Twentieth Century Club Meets. Nurse's Training Graduation Ahead

Mrs Frank Savage hosted the Twentieth Century Club Friday afternoon with ten members answering roll call on current events. Social hour included games and refreshments. The club plans to meet in April with Mrs J H Hipsley. Miss Helen Heatherington has completed three years of Nurse's Training at Methodist hospital Des Moines and returns home. graduation is set for June.

Conway Richey and Hunter Elected to School Board

F. E. Richey and Lester Hunter won seats on the Conway independent district school board in Monday's election. Hunter received 128 votes, while Richey led with 133. Opponents C. A. Haynes and C. R. Rosebrough trailed with 120 and 177. Total votes were 249.

Mt Pleasant area residents spent Friday visiting relatives and friends. Myron Reynolds and family visited Clyde Horton. Willis Stream and son Harold visited George Stream. Bertha Brunckhurst stayed with Miss Stella Shafer. Jean Ferguson from Clarinda spent time with sister Carroll Horton and Mrs Hosebrough in Conway. George Stream was chosen as Schools director for the coming year.

Miles Martin of Athelstan dies after long church service and family history. Vern Melvin Re elected Director In School Election

In the school election Monday thirty four voters were present and Vern Melvin was re elected director. J H Osborn attended the funeral of James Maxwell at Oak Grove church five miles southwest of Siam. Maxwell, who died Saturday at his Braddyville home, was 82. Miss Eustatia Mendenhall visited Friday night with Miss Beulah Larsson and Saturday they attended the Bedford teachers meeting. Sunday visitors at the McMaster home included Mr and Mrs Beryl Mathers.
