Mrs West Dies in St Joseph at 86 in Sheridan

Mrs. Sarah Lou West 86 of Sheridan died at her daughter's home in St Joseph on June 1 after years of declining health. A mother of 11 she survived by 3 daughters and 5 sons. Funeral was June 3 at Sheridan Christian Church with Rev. Oscar Rush officiating and burial in Blockton Cemetery. The Statesman family reunion followed on June 6 at Sheridan Park with numerous relatives listed from Parnell Sheridan and surrounding towns.

Sheridan locals report Mrs. Jes Straight entertaining at her mother Mrs. Clara Ruhs home in Sheridan while Ruh visits her daughter in Peoria. Harold Glass returns to Kansas City to care for ill father D S Glass. The Methodist Adult Ladies class met for a business meeting and officer elections. Ongoing travel includes June Hooper and sons from Maitland visiting. Owen Collier of Stanberry visiting relatives. Cora Caudle extending visit to Ohio. Noah Barks and Myrtle of Bedford visiting Sheridan. Mrs. John Lamison returning to Nebraska after a two week stay with Ethyl Scott. Bill Pullen and family spent evening with Dan Churchill family.

Athelstans Welcome Returned Visitors From St Joseph Trip

Miss Katherine Barber and George Brett of St Joseph returned home Friday morning. Miss Barber's school was dismissed last week. Visitors at the Johnn Sickels home Sunday included Mrs Minnie Smith of Hopkins and the Gene Sickels family of Bedford. Miss Ethel Adams of Blockton stayed with her sister Mrs Frank Irwin and daughters Edna Mae and Betty. Betty returned home with her for a few days. Frank Irwin, employed in Shenandoah, spent the weekend with his family. Mr and Mrs Roy Anderson of Portland Oregon are visiting her sister and husband Mr and Mrs Chas Morris and the Ray

Conservation Exhibit brings live wildlife to Bedford courtyard

The State Conservation Commission Education Exhibit opens in Bedford on July 22 from 11 am to 9 pm. A 34 foot trailer carries about 30 native birds and animals, ten live fish tanks, four snake cages, and a self contained power plant and PA system. Roy Downing guides the tour, M E Stempel oversees the territory, and the American Legion Post of Bedford sponsors the event to reach state schools and local communities.

Local residents host visiting relatives and neighbors

A flurry of weekend visits and house guests fills the community pages. Families from Bensonville, Blockton, Livingston, Stockton, Clarinda and beyond shared time with relatives in Bedford and surrounding farms, with several members traveling for holidays and furloughs.

Sharpsburg Library Opens Wednesdays with New Children Books

The Sharpsburg library in the bank building will be open Wednesday afternoons from 3:00 to 4:30 sponsored by the W C T U. New children’s books are available. Mrs. Margaret Moser hosted Presbyterian Ladies at her northeast town home Thursday with assistants Mrs. Chester Hamblin Mrs. Clyde Whipple and Mrs. Larry Hogue.

Methodist Church Plans Worship Next Sunday

The church invites worshippers for Sunday School at 10:00 and Worship Service at 11:00. The W S C S will meet Thursday afternoon June 17 at Mrs. Jim Boyer's home with Mrs. Claude Carter as assistant hostess. Gerald L. Walston, son of Mr and Mrs T W Walston, completed his course at the Radio Television and Electronics school in Omaha and received a first class engineers license. He has accepted a position with KSCDG in Sioux City.

Mr. and Mrs. Warren Peterson and children of Moline Illinois returned Sunday after visiting her father John Christenson. Mrs. Marvin Pace and baby son of Sioux Falls South Dakota spent last week with her aunt and uncle Mr and Mrs Fred Borden. Mr. and Mrs. Carl Rice and small daughter of Oakridge Tennessee and Miss Ruby Fickess of McPherson Kansas came Saturday to visit their parents Mr and Mrs Albert Fickess. Mr. and Mrs. Pearlie Richey of Cherokee spent Saturday with his parents Mr and Mrs Edd Richey. Junior Peck who had been visiting his parents Mr and Mrs Spencer Beck will leave Saturday for Spirit Lake where he will coach at a camp.
