Funeral for Alfred Rusco in Athelstan services held
Funeral services for Alfred Rusco were held at the Baptist church in Athelstan with Rev. Ed Colvin officiating. He died May 30 at William Hill’s home. Burial was in Athelstan cemetery. He was born February 14, 1858 and left multiple wives and 38 grandchildren with numerous surviving relatives listed across Iowa and Missouri. The community accompanying mourners included family and friends visiting for memorials and local services through the week.

Ruth Worthington led as president, Theda Cade vice president, Doris Thompson secretary treasurer, Margaret Keith journalist. County officers chosen Ethlyn Harris president Garnett Cade vice president Theda Cade queen. Sewing unit to study stitches seams hems and Rally Day folk dances set for Bedford this month. Next meeting June 6 at Mrs. Burton residence.

Hawleyville was represented by three girls at the Clarinda graduating exercises on Thursday: Helen Walker Marion Spalding and Mae Baker. Darwin Jett and Garnett Jett from Grand Island Business College attended along with Salim Attifitch and Pete Shephard of Chillicothe Business College. Mr. and Mrs J W Hollingsworth of Nodaway were weekend visitors at the Jett home. Orville Bateman and Mrs Essex visited Hawleyville to work on property. Mrs Mary Gardner returned to Clay Center Nebraska after a week with her daughter.
