Community groups report house lights in Hast Main completed and sidewalk nearing finish in Clearfield. Kensington Club met with flowers as roll call. Royal Neighbor Lodge held a Thursday session. W R C picnic planned for September 7 on Hinton lawn.
Local notes list numerous visits and trips: Mrs. Boyde Neville and others visit relatives in Estherville. Mr. and Mrs. Tom Moore visit E G Skinner in Kellerton. Ed and Lupe Richey travel to Des Moines and Orange City for fishing and sightseeing. Several families plan moves or trips to Colorado and Oregon.
Mrs Anna McGuire and her grandchildren from Osceola are visiting in the homes of Don Bennett and Lyle Nelson.
Miss Mary Turner daughter of Mr and Mrs George Turner of Mattoon and Wayne A Smith also of Mattoon were married at First Christian Church Mattoon on Sunday August 8 at 4 30 p m The couple will honeymoon visiting Siam Denver Kansas City Clinton Mo and the Lake of the Ozarks and will reside at 2308 Western Ave Mattoon Illinois
The Just-A-Mere Club sponsored a Sunday evening party at Mr. and Mrs. Charles Shoemaker home honoring their twenty-fifth wedding anniversary. The W.S.C.S. gathered Friday with 13 members for quilting and devotional lessons led by Mrs. Del Miller. The September meeting will be with Mrs. Floyd Farlow. The Stewart family held its annual reunion at Chautauqua Park in Clarinda with locals including Mr. and Mrs. Cecil Waldruff and Marian, Mr. and Mrs. Glenn Stewart and Glenn Eldon, plus Miss Etta Stewart and Roy Stewart.
Local families hosted and visited relatives across New Market Clarinda Gravity Gravity area. Notable stops included Edmond Bashore in New Market and Eldon Miller for a Christian Endeavor Society gathering. Families from Omaha, Mattoon, Bedford and Villisca were among the guests and visitors.
Mrs Donald Bordner and daughter of Texas joined relatives Sunday for a basket dinner at the Lake of Three Fires. They were weekend guests in the home of Mr and Mrs B F Johnson.
The Conway McCreary family reunion honored Robert McCreary home on naval leave at Shenandoah Park. Dorothy Smith became Mrs. Robert McCreary on August 7 in Mount Ayr. Dorothy, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jay Smith of Malay, taught school. Robert, a Conway High School graduate class of 1948, is stationed at the San Diego Naval Base and returned there Monday with Mrs. McCreary to join him later.
The Jolly Homemakers Club met Thursday with Mrs. Ruby Donahue presiding and roll call about vacation plans. Mrs. Dorothy John hosted. prizes went to Edith Gardner and Lena Ferber. Ida Ryan received a birthday gift from her Mystery Pal.
Fresh meats were served at the previous gathering and the next meeting will be at the Ryan home featuring a white elephant sale.
Mr and Mrs Clyde Wilson and Lynn return home after visiting in Council Bluffs and Carson. Dave Norton and family of Thayer visited Conway. Earl MacMahill and sons from Lancaster Missouri called on Harley Wintermute. Guests at W H Greenwood included Forrest Greenwood Story City Ralph Greenwood Tabor D E Garst Conway. Quutin Lambiey and Frederick of Tekamah Nebraska visit Ferm and Mrs Lambley and relatives. Edna Besco and Beryl spent weekend with Ilo Brown in Omaha. Doyle Anders Ann of Des Moines visit John Barmett home. Geo Nixon and Jack of Leon also present.
James Reader and Blanche Lawler led weekend visits across several Iowa homes including Ruth Nix, Ralph Hunter, Nelle Davis, Ross Smith in Clarinda, and Donald Green in Creston. Other guests joined at Lloyd Grubb near Bedford, J Roy Cooper’s grandson Howard Brown from Marshalltown, and Harley Wintermute with Gene Becherer’s family from Hastings Nebraska.
