San Jacinto Hospital tax dispute over appraisal validity
The city tax board faces contention over whether a hospital appraisal included personal property and how it affects tax exemptions. Hospital officials argue the current appraisal is invalid after a protest, while the city attorney says the board cannot modify property on the tax roll. The discussion also notes the hospital’s new medical building is not contested, but land and main unit values are debated. The budget study sessions show a 4% across the board pay raise for city employees with merit increases, and the council chose higher service charges over higher property taxes. A hospital letter cites errors in a Bay Town Sun report stating a $2,245,870 valuation and requests a corrected opportunity to present before the council or board.

City water rate plan to raise revenue in 1968 69
Lanham said water charges cost 45 cents per 1000 gallons then 3 cents per 100 gallons for the next 10000. He noted city delivery costs cents per 100 gallons and losses on deliveries in various brackets. Ordinances for water, sewer and garbage rate increases will be drawn with effective dates to be announced. The increases would yield about 148,800 in extra revenue for 1968 69, helping offset a 443,235 budget rise from last year.
