Baytown officials and chamber leaders gathered at Jenkins Park for the Baker Road Extension Project groundbreaking. The four lane concrete corridor will run from West Baker Road at Main Street to Crosby Cedar Bayou Road and Stolander Road with a landscaped center median and left turn lanes at N Main and Barkaloo.
Baytown City Council passed the 2012-2013 budget by a 5-2 vote at a special meeting in City Hall. The added 212000 funds target a potential merger of Baytown Fire Department and Baytown EMS, though no merger is guaranteed. Resident Mike Beard urged against the budget and merger, questioning service levels. Council member Hoskins asked if funds could be added later. city officials said changes after adoption are limited.
Byron Schirmbeck of Baytown filed federal suit in Houston alleging his civil rights were violated after he was threatened with fines for carrying a sign urging voters against red light cameras. He says cameras boost municipal revenue and cites past yellow-light timing to support claims of danger and coercion.
