Houston AP reports doctors surgically removed a tumor described as olive sized from the neck of Mrs. John Connally. The operation occurred today with no complications reported and the condition described as benign.

Baytown Chamber of Commerce will discuss an anti-litter drive-in ordinance and beautification recap at Friday noon at the Holiday Inn. W A Read am, Mrs Mabel Black, and the Cleanup and Beautification Committee will present the plan patterned after a successful city ordinance. City Manager Frit Lanham will cover cleanup responsibilities with slides shown by the group.

The Associated Press reports heavy rains hit Bore ham in Northeast Texas causing minor rural floods. Farm Road 10 near Honey Grove and Bonham was closed by high water. Tele phone received 1.8 inches on top of 5.65 inches from Wednesday as floods persist across the region. Skies were clearing except in northeast Texas and rainfall tapering. Overnight lows ranged from 6 degrees at Amarillo to 3? at Presidio. Mineral Wells recorded 1.12 inches in the 24 hours ending today.
In the Que Son valley near Tam Ky American Marines faced roughly 4000 fresh North Vietnamese regulars in a brutal night battle. Reports say 1883 Communist soldiers and 70 Marines were killed, with Marines suffering 124 dead and 278 wounded as clashes extended across paddies and bamboo stands near Da Nang.
Texas draft boards will be asked to furnish 17 men for induction in October. Col. Morris Schwarts, state selective service director, said today. This compares with 1,180 in September and 1,421 in August. The Texas quota of 817 for October is part of the national call for 17,000, all for the Army.
Baytown motorists are reminded to slow for school zones as patrols will use radar to enforce 20 mph limits only during posted hours at each school. Fines are $1 per mile over limit up to 10 miles and $2 per mile beyond that.
Ross Sterling High School will stage halftime activities when the Rangers face MacArthur at Memorial Stadium. The Sterling Blue Band, 224 strong under drum major Gayle Sanders, will perform four fronts and parade routines, salute the visiting team, and feature a Can Can dance with twirlers. Band director Elmer Hargis praises the young group. Sterling Stars director Clara Bays plans weekly pagEntry and showmanship with a new theme each program. The Stars open with Secure Agent featuring Goldfinger Peter Gunn and Theme from Dr No. 135 girls will perform under Lynn McDowell with a full corps of officers and cadets in blue and white uniforms.
The Baytown Optimist Club hosts Baseball Appreciation Night at 7 p.m. Monday at the Tower. Ladies Night features members and wives as hosts, with sponsors, managers, and wives invited. Special awards go to sponsors of top teams and runner up, plus league hitting and pitching champions. A good sportsmanship award is included. Elbert Bartinger is baseball leagues president this year, Steele M. McDonald is Optimist Club president.

The dispute centers on raises and policy influence with unions and boards proposing votes and potential recourse.
United Auto Workers began a nationwide walkout against Ford Motor Co blocking output of 1968 models in 25 states. Few pickets appeared at plants, no new negotiation talks were scheduled, and Ford warned Canadian shipments would continue under the free trade agreement though long strike could curb parts supply and threaten Ford’s standing against GM and Chrysler.
Baytown businessman McWilliams and Richard Stakes of Houston and San Antonio have purchased Gregory's For Men at 308 W. Texas Ave from James R. Eddings. McWilliams seeks to lead the new firm with Stakes as vice president and Steve McWilliams as secretary treasurer. Eddings has left Highlands to reside in Houston.
