Washburn Tunnel Reopens After Ike Flooding Today
The Washburn Tunnel will reopen at 5 a.m. after being closed since September 13 due to Hurricane Ike. Harris County tolls resume standard rates on the Sam Houston Ship Channel Bridge, with minor repairs remaining inside the tunnel. The historic Texas traffic tunnel, named for Harry L. Washburn, had not flooded before Ike.
