Texas Senate Action On Tex Bill In Overtime Session
The Texas Senate debated a 2.483 million tax bill with a one cent gas and cigarette tax hike and higher beer and wine license fees. Sen Ottis Lock of Lufkin, reluctant sponsor, said the bill would be taken up for debate despite House in recess. Amendments were expected as the chamber sought funds to cover two fiscal years. Meanwhile Rep Dolph Briscoe Te. of Uvalde pushed a bill to curb postponement of trials involving legislators serving as attorneys. A joint House Senate conference advanced a revised Trim River Authority bill after House refusals to accept Senate changes. The Senate adjourned without acting on a proposed constitutional amendment lifting the 10 percent ceiling on small loans amid a filibuster threat by Sen. Moore and a note that Moore spoke while proposing Indianola state park status.
