Houston police report actress Hedy Lamarr upset by lie detector tests about a $50,000 jewel theft at her home. Tests showed the machine functioned properly as she and other household members answered questions about the case.

Strong southerly wind for 36 hours drove bay tides to seven feet, flooding roads in Brownwood subdivision and a low crossing. No bay shore homes were seriously damaged though a residence in Brownwood saw water within two and a half feet. Water covered Mapleton Avenue at a low spot and Crow Road was half flooded. High water did not stop Baytown Refinery shipping. Local residents recalled tides rivaling old hurricane years in 1943 and 1847.
London reports Sir Anthony Eden's Conservatives secure a clear majority in the House of Commons after Thursday's general election. With 335 seats to Labour's 271 and 13,024,089 votes to 12,139,668, the surge edges the party toward a potential 75 seat margin over Socialists, ousting Attlee's Labour and Bevan left wing. Eden rises to power, ending Churchill's interim tenure after 52 days.
Robert E. Lee high school will award diplomas to 401 graduates at 8 pm Friday in Memorial Stadium if it rains the program moves to the Robert E. Lee high school auditorium. Principal Sparks will award scholarships to valedictorian Julia Ann Bonner and salutatorian Patsy Aiken. Invocation by Stephen Linscott and benediction by J W Gammel. School band will perform with Troumphal March and University Grand March some graduates will sing Alma Mater. Parents admitted first. crowd size may limit attendance.
A low pressure system that spawned tornadoes left a trail of death and destruction as it moved out of Texas. Cloudiness remained over the eastern part of the state with scattered rain in northeast Texas and record heat in spots like Alice reaching 101. An Air Force B-36 crash near Sterling City caused 13 of 15 crewmen to be recovered by Friday. Tornadoes were sighted southeast of Wichita Falls and west of Merkel, while lightning damaged homes in Fisher and Brown counties.
President Eisenhower declared a major disaster under Public Law 875 for tornado devastated areas in Kansas after a plea from Gov Fred Hall. Federal funds will supplement state and local relief as FCDA agents assist Udall Cowley County and other affected zones amid Kansas Texas Oklahoma and Missouri damage reports.
Val Jean McCoy of Gulf Mid-Continent Division Shell Co will deliver the commencement address for Lee College graduates on June 3 in the college auditorium. Patrolman John Meadors arrested a 17 year old Latin American youth on a charge of contributing to the delinquency of children after police found two boys in a shack off Harbor street playing dice while skate and hockey activity took place. The youth reportedly lives nearby and authorities believe the ring encouraged juvenile misbehavior.
City Council failed to reach agreement on a penny parking proposal. Councilman Clayton opposed the plan, while Assistant Police Chief Freeman supported longer times. the matter was sent to the corporation court committee for study with a report due next meeting.

James Tyree Ti, son of Mr and Mrs J B Tyree of 3301 Minnesota, earned a degree in agricultural journalism.
Two teenage girls were injured in a two car crash at the Oklahoma and Wisconsin intersection at 3 45 pm Friday. Daisy Emanuel 17 of Oakland Estates and Ming Yvonne MecDaniel of Pasadena were treated for lacerations and bruises at San Jacinto Memorial hospital. Leslie C Little 320814 Michigan ran a stop sign causing the collision. Little received tickets for running a stop sign and failure to grant right of way.
A news item clarifies that the Baytown store will follow its usual summer hours from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. starting June 1, correcting an earlier erroneous announcement. Sears Roebuck and Co. will stay open 3:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily except Friday and Thursday, with Thursday closing earlier.
