Five former national guardsmen were found guilty on all counts in the murders of four American churchwomen in Zacatecoluca El Salvador. The verdict came after an all night session with a one hour deliberation, amid U S aid politics and pressure on the trial.

The Baytown Class of 1984 with a total of 975 graduates will receive diplomas in ceremonies at Stallworth Stadium at 8 p.m. Monday for Ross S. Sterling and 8 p.m. Tuesday for Robert E. Lee, with rain backup in school auditoriums. Baccalaureate services are Sunday at Sterling at 3 p.m. and at REL at 8 p.m. REL valedictorian Amy Kay Bonem and Sterling valedictorian John Edward Dizon headline top students along with two salutatorians and a list of other top ten graduates from both schools. Last day for non seniors is Wednesday.
Liberty ex jailer Sonny Bivins testified in the 253rd District Court that he did not release Ward Hamilton on January 4 1984 in exchange for a payoff. He admitted a mistake in trusting Hamilton to stay in the lawyers conference room and said he only learned Hamilton was missing after the alarm. Hamilton said Bivins let him out to visit Huffman for a promised payoff, while Bivins claimed he did not think the prisoner was a security risk.
