House passes anti-landfill bill HB 2554 in Texas House

The Texas House of Representatives approved House Bill 2554 authored by Rep. Wayne Smith to halt a TSP Development Ltd landfill near Baytown. Stamp Out Hunger Drive Aims to Help Baytown Neighbors

The National Association of Letter Carriers conducts its 11th annual Food Drive to Help Stamp Out Hunger this Saturday. Exxon unions approve four year contract at Baytown refinery

Two unions representing lab and machinist workers at ExxonMobil Baytown approved a four year pact with wage increases totaling 2 percent to 25.86 per hour plus 3.7 percent in 2004 and 4 percent in 2005 and additional 2006 rises. Votes ended Thursday and Wednesday with concerns over a potential lockout easing as talks continue with remaining workers.

Baytown Council Approves Security Funds for Bayou Bowl

Baytown City Council approves $1,700 for security and EMS for the inaugural Bayou Bowl between Texas and Louisiana high schools. Administrators are advised to pay $5,300 for Wooster School Building roof repairs using hotel motel tax revenue to cover promotional items for the football event.

Chambers County jail back in state compliance

Chambers County Sheriff's Department says the county jail now meets state rules after failing a March inspection with two violations. Inspectors cited jailer to inmate ratio and TB testing delays for inmates held over seven days. Two more jailers were hired before the May 7 deadline.
