Baytown Eyes Renewal of Street Maintenance Tax in May Vote
Baytown leaders push for reauthorization of the quarter-cent street maintenance tax in the May 10 election. The levy funds mill and overlay, crack sealing, and replacement of road panels across about 22 miles, with current yearly revenues near 2.25 million and a 2 million annual impact. Mayor DonCarlos stresses proven results on the worst streets and urges voters to renew the measure for four more years.

The measure adopted in May 2004 expires every four years unless re authorized. Funds may maintain or repair existing city streets, not build new ones, and cannot cover salaries or consultants.
