Dear Abby and a true tale of lies and memory
A columnist recalls using Dear Abby for inspiration and reflects on lies told to Alzheimer's patients. He recounts a Berkeley letter about a husband who stinks and a harsh Abby reply, then shares a personal memory of lying to his father J P during his illness and the anger he faced when leaving.

Baytown history notes and political echoes across decades
A concise history roundup cites Yeltsin ceasefire moves in Chechnya ten years ago, Milosevic siege actions five years back, and a presidential commission report last year on US nuclear threats. It recalls Baytown absentee voting 30 years ago and local elections 15 years ago, plus a recent case of a Baytown man sentenced for child pornography. The quote and Isaiah passage frame contextual reflections on suffering and gentleness.
