The Lee Lady Ganders tallied six hits but left seven runners on base as Atascocita defeated Lee 4-0 in District 21-5A softball. Lori Ward led Lee with two hits including a long drive that was cut to a double by a tall fence. Atascocita pitcher Alyssa Romero shut down Lee, retiring four batters at key moments.
Lee stranded runners at second as Romero fanned seven in a tight H S game. Atascocita led with Nadia Taylor RBI single, a second inning double and single, and five errors by Lee in the fifth. Barbers Hill defeated Huffman 8 0 behind Whitney Miller two hit shutout with 11 strikeouts.
Texas star D J Augustin emerges as a scoring and assist leader as the Longhorns chase another Final Four. He majors in education with a 3.64 GPA while guiding a 30 6 team into a regional semifinal against Stanford after standout wins over Kansas and UCLA.
The Trojans and Ganders traded chances in a windy playoff showdown with late near misses. Octavio Torres and Benito Huerta sparked Lee, while South Houston keeper Jose Cornejo denied a late surge and coach Augustin Laredo praised his team’s resilience after a hard fought defeat.
Hales struck out 10 as Barbers Hill beat Huffman 6-3 in District 21-4A. Hunter Silva hit a solo homer in the first, Jake Ponder added a two-run homer in the sixth, and Ponder went 2 for 2. Barbers Hill improved to 15-3 overall and 5-0 in district, next visiting C.E. King Friday at 6 p.m.
Crosby improves to 3 2 in District 21 4A with a 16 3 win over Forest Brook. Pitcher Willie Hebert earned the win. Cade Ramirez goes 3 for 3 while Ben Skinner is 2 for 2 and Frank Rangel hits a homer. Crosby returns Friday to face Huffman.
The Lady Rangers built a 2-1 lead with two runs in the second then tacked on two more in the third and fifth and added a final run in the sixth. Pepper Ruiz went 2 for 3, scoring on a sequence that included a misplayed ball and a sacrifice fly by Adrienne Oviedo for a 2-0 edge. Kingwood answered with an unearned run but Sterling pulled away as Siple knocked in two in the fifth with a two-run double and Dobson added an RBI hit. Kingwood drops to 6-1 in district as Sterling prepares to host Humble Friday at 6 15 p.m.
