The Houston Raceway Park and the City of Baytown Chamber of Commerce will host the second annual Baytown Hot Rod Rally from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday at San Jacinto Mall.
The 1982 off-Broadway musical dark comedy about a plant with a strange appetite opens at 8 p.m. Friday April 4 at The Baytown Little Theater. A 10 member Yulin China delegation visited Baytown to learn about local industry commerce and utilities. Mayors Stephen DonCarlos of Baytown and Li Jinzhu of Yulin signed a friendship agreement during a Monday ceremony, with local officials and business representatives in attendance.
Jury selection began Monday for a civil case in which contract workers claim injuries from the 2006 Bayer Material Science plant explosion. The Sept 26 blast at a toluenedio cyanate unit sent 21 workers to hospitals for decontamination and burns. Plaintiffs allege negligence and that Bayer ignored warnings amid ongoing process problems. OSHA cited Bayer for 11 violations totaling 26000 dollars. The suit has grown beyond the initial two plaintiffs. The record notes burns, orthopedic injuries, and dangers faced by workers during the incident.
City officials prepare for two morning and evening sessions inviting residents to share views on Baytown's strengths weaknesses opportunities and threats. Kelvin Knauf notes the meetings will be condensed versions of a council visioning session with similar formats and color coded highlights used previously.
