Donors Sought for San Jacinto Park Acres

County Judge Bob Casey told Baytown Real Estate Board that work on the road to the San Jacinto reservoir will await property owners donations of right of way and substantial recreation land. He cited a $1.6 million road bond and urged 1,000 acres for proper recreation, praising Sylvan Beach plans and stressing park needs to curb juvenile delinquency.

Schine’s Army Passes Under Investigation

Odd cargo found in youths car during Baytown stop

City youths were questioned by Probation Officer Eddie Garratt after a Friday Baytown stop by Spc. Cleve Dickens and Patrolman Ray Turner. The back seat held an empty beer bottle, five Oldsmobile hubcaps, brass knuckles, and two identification cards showing the lads are 17.

Driver posts bond in La Porte accident

Jack D. Ramsey, 28, of Liberty posted a $200 cash bond with La Porte City Judge John Eckhardt on a reckless driving charge. Ramsey was released from San Jacinto Memorial Hospital after an overnight stay following an automobile crash in La Porte that struck a telephone pole and a city fire hydrant. The case is set for near ing on March 27.

Air Force Plane Crash Kills 18 Near Annapolis

A C-119 Flying Boxcar based at Ardmore Oklahoma with six crew and twelve passengers aboard crashed in rain near Lothian Maryland killing 18. Another B-26 bomber also crashed nearby killing four. Names withheld pending next of kin. Investigators sought cause with debris scattered over fields.

Charter Amendment Discussed In La Porte City

La Porte city commission talked about adding two more commissioners to create four but took no action. Radio Dispatch Plan Urged For La Porte Police

Mrs Laura Gaines of Huntsville Dies

Laura Marinda Gaines, 80, died at 6 am Saturday at her daughter’s home in Channelview. She lived in Huntsville most of her life and moved to Channelview a month ago to visit. The body will return to Huntsville for burial. Earthman Funeral Home will announce other arrangements. By Ken Reynolds.

Suspect Held In Mysterious Death Of Young Fireman

Houston March 20 UP sheriff officers held one suspect in the strangulation death of 23 year old fireman Johnny Lee Kelley found along the San Jacinto River. A second twine knot and a tree limb indicated binding while a service station operator reported a brown haired man with Kelley earlier.

Mrs Jim Collin Pays $45 Fine in Accident

Texas City resident Mrs Jim Collin paid a $45 fine to the City of La Porte on a reckless driving charge arising from an March 12 accident. Eight year old Phils lip McCain was injured when struck by Collin’s cat crossing Mass Street. The boy remained in Sam Jacinto hospital in Baytown with a fractured leg.
