AUSTIN March 18 UP Texas legislators opened a 30 day special session aimed at raising teacher and state employee salaries and funding the boosts with new taxes. Gov Allin Shivers urged lawmakers to find the revenue sources while seeking a $402 annual pay hike and adjusted aid formulas. His tax plan includes a half cent per thousand cubic foot natural gas tax, a beer tax hike, and higher corporate franchise tax to cover about 26.9 million.
