Company E To Open Spring Campaign For New Recruits

Baytown's Company E 143d Infantry Regiment of the Texas National Guard will launch its spring reining campaign on March 22 to reach full strength. Capt. John Kader says prospective guardsmen can report at the National Guard Armory for enlistment and advice. Age 17 to 25, parental consent for under 18. Baytown Couple Admit Forging Checks Under Threat

A Baytown couple confessed to forging and cashing at least five checks signed M. L. Roden over recent months. James W. Tubbs and his wife, both 26, admitted the acts. Tubbs, illiterate except for signing, allegedly forced his wife with threats of violence to write the checks. Charges of forgery and passing worthless checks were filed in Justice Roscoe Zierlein's court.

Detour Plan Outlined For Tri City Beach Paving

County Commissioner W W Ramsey announced two detour routes for East Texas Avenue and Tri City Beach road during a 4.11 mile paving from Texas at Highway 146 to the bascule bridge on Cedar Bayou. Evergreen Road will detour the upper section while Canam Btra county detours cover the lower near the bridge. Crews aim to keep detours available at all times during a 60 day construction period, and public cooperation is requested.
