Difficult Feat Now A Reality
The Mount Washington Cog Railway marks its 100th anniversary celebrating the first cog railway ascent of Mount Washington in 1869. It recalls Sylvester Marsh’s charter battle, construction challenges, and the heroic Peppersass engine, with the line now carrying up to 53,000 riders annually between June and October. A centennial locomotive, the Colonel Teague, is under construction.
