City Drives Delinquent Tax Campaign In Baytown
Baytown launches an all out effort to collect 429353.07 in delinquent taxes dating back to 1948 49. City tax assessor-collector O M Coe says 2400 notices go out this week with two more mailings planned August 1 and September 1. Ad Valorem Records Inc hired to streamline billing and a composite delinquent roll is maintained. Coe defends the tax effort noting a 97.5 percent collection rate and suggests a sales tax as an alternative revenue source to ease burdens on landowners.

Baytown Chief Blair Mann resigns under retirement rule
