Indian director Ray to make English film The Alien
Indian film maker Satyajit Ray plans to adapt his craft for Columbia Pictures in an English language project titled The Alien. Ray, famed for Bengali language works like Pather Panchali and The World of Apu, seeks virtuoso performers and may cast Peter Sellers, with potential American leads such as Steve McQueen or Marlon Brando. Ray asserts Calcutta as a hub for modest, literature-based cinema and criticizes Bombay’s 100 percent commercial, big-budget output.
