Harris County Commissioners Court voted unanimously to call a $21.5 million flood control bond election for July 15. Commissioner W V Ramsey called it the most necessary bond issue since he became commissioner.
Funeral services were held at St. Pauls Episcopal Church in Houston for 41 year old Marilyn Pattison wife of Roy Pattison Jr formerly of Mont Belvieu She survived by her husband two sons and a daughter. Kiddie Show in Brunson announced with Hermits performing Hard On box office opens 930 am show starts 10 am. Beach City Council to meet 7 pm Tuesday at Community Building on West Bay Road.

The Baytown Sun earned two first place prizes from the Texas Press Association in Arlington. Firsts came for general appearance and locally written editorials in Division 1 for towns 15 000 to 150 000. Sun placed third in total points behind Longview News and Nacogdoches Sentinel. Bay City Tribune won top points for towns under 15 000.
Partly cloudy and continued hot through Tuesday in the Baytown area. Forecast highs range from the upper 70s to the upper 90s, with Morgan's Point tides listed for Tuesday showing highs at 11 55 a m and 9 25 p m and a low at 1 25 p m.
The school board plans a brief regular meeting Monday night to discuss the 1969 70 budget and previously slated items. President Opryshek declined to set a firm superintendent announcement date, but the board aims to name a new leader around July 1.
Pat Tobin of the Baytown water department said the city has adequate water with sufficient pressure despite a heat wave. Some large tanks are out of service for painting and repair, including the Market Street tank. A section of its top blew off recently and the cause is under study. Water pumping rose to six million gallons daily during peak heat, versus 4.6 million in May, as rusting mains and leaks affect supply. The city council referred water line problems to the engineering department for study.
The Pentagon said 29,500 men will be drafted in August while Army strength will drop by about 13,000 amid Vietnam withdrawal plans. Inductees all enter the Army, with 8,000 of 15,000 Vietnam-era personnel not being replaced and 5,000 terms not renewed. Overall Army ranks hover just above 1.5 million, saving roughly $130 million. The timetable also outlines the return of the first of 19,000 troops to come home in July and August.
Four bids have been received from First National Bank Citizens National Bank Bank of Baytown and Peoples State Bank for Lee College depository contract starting Sept 1 for two years. LC Business Manager John Pechacek says bids from First National and Citizens National are very close and a recommendation will go to the Board of Regents next Thursday night.
