Massive blackout hits Lubbock area Tuesday night
A city wide electrical outage left about 7,900 homes and businesses without power and an estimated 25,000 people affected on the west side of Lubbock. Crews divert power from Southwestern Power Co while repairing a boiler rupture at the city owned main plant. A second plant, already half-damaged since May tornado, worsened the shortage as temperatures hit 102 degrees.

Channelview Voters To Decide Bond Fate
Channelview voters will decide Saturday whether to remove the 6.5 percent interest ceiling on 985000 in unsold school house bonds part of a 2 million issue approved in 1966. Bonds would fund classrooms restrooms lunchroom upgrades shop facilities stadium improvements and other athletic facilities at Viola Cable and DeZavala Elementary and Channelview High School. George Reed to receive second 50 year Mason pin
George Reed, born April 7, 1880 in Waelder, a Goose Creek charter member and long time oil well driller, will receive his second 50 year Mason pin at a 7 30 p m dinner in the Masonic Hall on Texas Avenue. Reed joined Cedar Bayou Lodge in 1919 and helped organize Goose Creek Chapter 408 in 1921. He first earned a 50 year pin in 1969 from Cedar Bayou Lodge. He has lived in Goose Creek, Baytown area, since returning to Texas in 1920 to marry, and still visits Baytown.
