Anahuac wildfire under control at refuge marsh
Firefighters at Anahuac National Wildlife Refuge said the wildfire started Friday evening from lightning in the marsh and burned over 1000 acres before being declared under control Sunday afternoon. The blaze sent smoke across Bolivar Peninsula and Galveston Island, but the refuge reopened with caution. Isolated pockets of fuel remained burning and would be monitored while roads stayed open.
