Lightning strikes ignite Anahuac wildlife refuge fire
A passing thunderstorm lightning strike started a wildfire at the Anahuac Wildlife Refuge burning hundreds of acres of marshland and threatening wildlife habitats as about 12 wildland firefighters battled in 95 degree heat on a Saturday afternoon. Park ranger Tamara Schutter said control was unlikely before today and weather remained unhelpful.
