Work on West Main from Lee Drive to Goose Creek bridge will start soon as a Harris County project with a $51,020.90 contract awarded to Holland Page. Baytown will contribute $7,850 for widening, with the road to be asphalt concrete six inches thick and five foot shell shoulders. Second bid came from Rainey Construction at $51,995.48.

Texas Weather Toll From Tornadoes And Storms
A violent squall line last Wednesday unleashed blinding dust storms, tornadoes, and high winds across Texas. Damage runs into hundreds of thousands. at least four tornadoes touched down in West and Central Texas, with seven reported unofficially. One farmer, 54-year-old Harl Rogers, was killed by lightning while plowing near Hale Corner. Readings show 2.05 inches of rain at Abilene and notable totals at several cities. Tornadoes struck Seagraves, Lorena, Ranger, Lake Diversion, and areas near Waco and Wichita Falls, causing structural damage and injuries from debris and accidents. Forecasters say calmer weather is returning, with only scattered thundershowers possible in South Texas and the Panhandle.

S. J. Alexander an 83 year old Bay town resident and father of Kyle Alexander was killed in a storm related automobile crash near Clifton Texas. He and companion Gerald Dickson were returning from Lake Whitney when their car wrecked on State Highway 215 eight miles east of Clifton. Funeral services set for 8:00 am Friday at the First Baptist Church Clifton with Rev. W G Etheridge officiating burial in Clifton Cemetery. Survivors include two daughters Mrs Ruby Hardwick Keller and Mrs Floyd Averson Hillaboro in addition to his son.
