Three old ferries sold mark Baytown progress era ends
Three aging Baytown ferries the Galveston Jefferson and Massey were sold after decades of service. Once bustling with car traffic and ferry romance they could not compete with the Baytown Port Tunnel. The Massey sold for 1000 the Jefferson for 2000 and the Galveston for 8700. The state had given them to the county for Lynchburg crossing but widening slips would be costly. Progress moves beyond romance as modern transit takes over.
