94 Billion Needed for Texas Water Facilities
Texas water planners say 94 billion dollars are needed to meet future needs through large reservoirs and a proposed canal from Sabine to the Lower Rio Grande. The study by the Reclamation Bureau and a state commission cites uneven rainfall, with 62 percent of Texas land and 80 percent of its population in study basins. Projections include upstream transfers, major conveyance projects, and a 50 mile inland canal costing 411 million dollars to move water from East Texas to drier regions.
