Research Leads Baytown Refinery Toward Higher Octane
Baytown Research Center scientists read the way at the refinery as they develop catalytic hydrotreating and desulfurizing processes to raise gasoline octane and purify naphthas. The work uses platinum catalysts and new devices like the Van de Graaff generator to test oil samples, with aims to yield solvents, plastics, fibers, and synthetic rubber from crude oil.
