$84 Million Hike For Education Budget Proposed
Gov. John Connally's special committee on higher education urged a sweeping program to upgrade faculty salaries and create a strong coordinating board. They proposed increasing senior college and university salaries to 193 million for 1965-67 and 591 million the next biennium, and doubling tuition to 50 a semester with a new 18-member coordinating board.

Boat Ramp Planned for San Jacinto River at Baytown
The Texas Highway Department seeks to build a free boat launching ramp on the east bank of the San Jacinto River between I 10 and the old Market Street Road bridge. The 23 by 40 foot concrete ramp would rise from minus 33 feet to plus 2.4 feet with a four foot loading pier and parking areas shoreward. Last Rites For Baytonian Held Tuesday
Funeral services were held in Post Texas for Mrs Mary Owings 58 killed in a car wreck near Lubbock. Her husband James Owings Baytown employee was seriously injured with a foot amputated. They were en route to Colorado for a family reunion when the blowout caused a fourfold rollover. Survived by four sons, two grandchildren, and many relatives. Burial in Terrace Cemetery. Born October 10 1905 in Anson Texas, she lived in Baytown about ten years.

Last Rites Held For Mrs Gloria Bruce
Funeral services were held Tuesday at Trinity Episcopal Church for Mrs Gloria Bruce widow of the late Dr George Brice. Burial followed at Forest Park Cemetery in Houston under the direction of Paul A Lee Funeral Home. Survived by daughter Mrs Cameron Gates of Fort Belvoir Virginia a son Barton Bruce of New Orleans two sisters Mrs Fred O Hagan and her mother Mrs Ada Woodawant both of Baytown three grandchildren and other relatives. Mrs Bruce died suddenly from a heart attack at dinner time. Dr Bruce a Baytown physician died August 23.
