Tshombe Pledges Fidelity and Takes Congo Government
Moise Tshombe, surrounded by a rugged cabinet, has taken the helm as Congo premier pledging fidelity to the Congo and the state. He was sworn in by President Kasavubu at the residence overlooking the Congo River. The move foreshadows a broad, high stakes election campaign with foreign money and rival powers weighing in. Cyrille Adoula may oppose Tshombe as caretaker premier since Parliament dissolution.
