All Propositions Fail Baytown Bonds Vote
Baytown voters soundly defeated all proposed capital improvement bonds totaling 2 840 000 dollars in a turnout-record bond election. The city hall project faced the largest opposition while street and drainage bonds carried narrow margins in two boxes. City council will canvass returns Thursday night and no meeting set for Feb 8.

Ex Ranger Hickman Dies at 75 in Texas
Former Texas Ranger Tom Hickman, 75, influential in the 1920s and 1930s oil boom, died after months of illness. He retired in 1935, later served Gulf Oil as a special officer, chaired the Texas Public Safety Commission since 1956, and remained active in public life. Surviving: widow, two sons David and Tom Jr. He was a Cooke County native and iconic figure in Borger and other oil boom towns.

The hotel will serve industry and officials, with a staged expansion from 20–24 rooms up to 100–200 units, including a restaurant and clubs.
