Baytown resident Mrs. O. W. Fayle, longtime Baytown figure, has sold poll tax receipts for 32 consecutive years in churches schools banks and stores across Harris County. Her record includes approximately 172 800 taxes based on 27 selling days in January, earning widespread recognition for her role in “getting out the vote.”

The Highway Commission moved to fast track construction of an access corridor to a $90 million space development, with two lane widening from the Gulf Freeway to Texas Avenue in Webster and to the NASA entrance, plus broader links to Seabrook. Mrs. A C Kraft’s mother Mrs Bila Pickens dies at 83 near Weatherford Texas funeral planned for 2 p m Sunday at White’s Funeral Home in Weatherford. She is survived by son Dr J W Pickens of Cleburnie Texas and several grandchildren including Jack, Constance, Charis and Ann.
Baytown voters cast more than expected as bond issues totaling 2.84 million dollars faced a heavy early turnout before the Saturday deadline. Precinct counts show strong participation despite poor weather, with residents urged to pay poll taxes and buy voter credentials ahead of the 1962 elections. Astronaut John H. Glenn’s orbital flight cancellation prompted many to vote early.
