LBJ Moves to Reverse Ban on Surplus Food to UAR

Washington AP reports the Johnson administration led a Senate push to overturn the House ban on selling surplus farm goods to the United Arab Republic. Secretary of State Rusk argued the measure limits presidential flexibility and elements in Congress resent Nasser’s stance toward Israel. The House amended an agriculture bill to bar $37 million in wheat, tobacco, and vegetable oils to Cairo under an October expiry.
