Funeral services for Robert Ripley Pryor 76 of 905 Barrymore proceed at 4 p.m. Wednesday at Paul U. Lee Chapel with Rev. G N Allison and Rev Basil Jones officiating. Pryor died after injuries from a two truck collision on Decker Drive near Goose Creek Stream Bridge. Charges of negligent homicide against George Torres and driving while license suspended against Warren Luke were filed in Justice Walter Queen's court. Pryor survived by wife Gothie Ann and 3 daughters and 2 sons, 11 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren.
Nearly 400 guests are expected at the Baytown Chamber of Commerce annual banquet Wednesday at the Knights of Columbus Hall. More than 300 reservations had been made by Tuesday morning as tickets remained on sale. Entertainment features the Madrigal Singers from Robert E. Lee Choir in Elizabethan costumes performing Camelot selections. Robert Gillette will preside, and FE. C. Gack Rimmons will become president. Marvin Hurley, Houston Chamber executive, will speak on 1982 economic outlook for Baytown and north Houston, including the NASA area.
Stan Burch, 42, died of a heart attack at Baytown Refinery Monday morning. Services 9:30 a.m. Wednesday at Earthman Chapel and 10 a.m. at Trinity Episcopal Church. The Baytown Chamber of Commerce board endorsed a $2,840,000 city bond package aimed at paving designated thoroughfares and undesignated streets, funding a new city hall, drainage, and park improvements. City officials outlined eight approved thoroughfares and rules for petitioned paving, with voter support urged ahead of the Saturday polls.
Veteran Baytown attorney Ervin Flowers announced his candidacy for Justice of the Peace in Precinct. He transfers from a Baytown law office to La Porte High connections, and has ties to Goose Flowers and H N Love. Born in Hardin County, he studied at Baytown schools, earned a 1931 law degree in Houston, and has long practiced in Baytown.
Ernest L. Brown Jr outlines Baytown general obligation bonds and the impact of issuing the full 2.84 million. As of Sept 30 1961 outstanding bonds were 2.566 million with total authorized 5.25 million. future sales could raise the debt, taxes for a 20 000 home or business projected to rise about 7, with anticipated new development mitigating the rise. Specific figures show older debt payoff in 1962 and gradual bond sales through 1964 to keep outstanding debt under 5 million.

Robert E. Lee High School Student Council netted 677.50 from a Powder Puff football game at Memorial Stadium between the Stonewall Sissies and the Dixie Darlin's. Funds cover foreign student expenses. Darlin's won 16 to 4 after four quarters. 44 girls participated with Clyde Henderson announcing. uniforms described.
Two weeks remain to purchase poll tax receipts for 1961 Texas elections with $1.50 fee. Exemptions apply to those age 60 as of Jan 1 1961 and age 21 as of Jan 1 131. The list names buying points across Brytoven area including Leon Anderson Crosby Gary Bonner Ash Cook’s Ice House and many others. Receipts fund the permanent school fund and exemptions include recent movers from out of state.
