Revival At Memorial Assembly Of God Church Continues

The Revival at Memorial Assembly of God Church with Rev H H Woods will continue this week with services at 7 p.m. nightly. The public is invited to attend. Other items note Brownwood Civic Association meeting at 7 30 p.m. Tuesday at the old Wooster Water Office to elect new directors. Baytown Society for Crip pled Children holds its annual meeting at 7 30 p.m. Tuesday at 1305 W Sterling to discuss building plans. Dewey Compton will speak to Baytown Federation of Garden Clubs at 10 a.m. Thursday in the Community Building. Baytown 4-H Club meets at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Sterling Municipal Library. Weather: Continued cloudy to partly cloudy and mild through Wednesday with temperatures mid 60s to near 70.

Crosby School District May Keep Accreditation

Crosby School Board heard a TEA verbal hint that accreditation may be extended if non building deficiencies are fixed, even without a bond. The district is under Governor's Committee moves toward consolidation with Huffman Sheldon and Humble. The panel also noted building plans and a HEW funds appeal.

Tickets Ready For JC Fete

About 200 tickets are available for Friday's Jaycee Distinguished Service Awards banquet at 7:30 pm at the Holiday Inn. A social hour begins at 6:30 pm. Tickets cost $4.50 each and may be bought from any Jaycee member. Richard Harris and Ernest Hauser provide ticket info. Harris County District Attorney Carol Vance will speak. Awards honor the outstanding young man and a distinguished citizen for community service.

Bank Robbery in Houston Nets 11800 in Gold Attire

A man wearing gold slacks and a gold sweater robbed the River Oaks Bank & Trust Co. in Houston today and escaped with 11800 dollars. Police searched the area but no suspect was immediately found. The incident marks a bold daytime heist at a well known lender in the River Oaks district. Local investigators gathered surveillance data and interviewed witnesses to identify the getaway route.

Baytown Hosts Offshore Drilling School For Three Weeks

Baytown again hosts an Offshore Drilling School sponsored by the University of Texas and Lee College at Holiday Law. Bruce Whalen presided at opening ceremonies and a dinner honoring 34 students and guests. Sid Elskes was named associate. he recently joined the Texas staff after retiring from the U S Air Force. The program reports record enrollment and plans field trips to the offshore area near Baytown and to Cameron Louisiana. Baytown dignitaries attended the dinner including Norman Hargrave Sr and Jr Felix Hatchell and others.

Goose Creek 50th Birthday Open House Planned

A hastily formed committee led by City Councilman Albert Fanestiel organizes a Sunday open house from noon to 6 p.m. at the Community Building to mark Goose Creek's 50th anniversary. Al Chappell will show slides at 1 p.m. and 4 p.m., with other entertainment planned. Exhibitors may bring period artifacts, costumes, and furnishings. Ken Persenaire oversees setup from 8 a.m. to noon. Members include Norman D'Olive and I. M. Deacon Jones, with Baytown groups invited to dress in period costumes as hostesses. Goose Creek was incorporated on January 28, 1919.

Baytown Student dies from gunshot in Huntsville apartment

John Douglas Bettis Jr. 21 of Baytown died from a gunshot at 7 45 p m Monday in his Huntsville apartment. Bettis a Sam Houston State College student and Marine Corps veteran was cleaning a gun after target practice when the shot occurred. His roommate Steve McAdams and another student Sandra Elders were nearby. Bettis served overseas and rodeo involved clubs. He is survived by his parents.
