Jim Finley recalls a gift from Peggy Ellis containing a 55 year old photo of himself and Charlie Mayer, labeled Managers Finley and Mayer. He reminisces about football managers, a woodshop prank with an infamous chair, Charlie’s father Eddie mayor of the town, and old school style, thanking Peggy for the memory.
Baytown readers recall Riverview Inn on the San Jacinto River bluff near the Market Street Road Bridge, hosting Baytonians dances at Humble Community House and across Harris and Galveston counties. The Baytonians roster included Bill Kovar, Clyde Smith, Johnny King, Darrell Nickerson, Frank Hefner, and Henry Einfeldt. Further Sun ads hint Glen Campbell may have joined Crosby dances with Gary Kilpatrick and the Yearlings at the American Legion Hall, plus regulars at VFW Hall and Tri-City Club venues with Lee Rogers, the Happy Valley Boys, and the Texas Blue Boys lingering in memory. Wanda Orton notes.
Denise Hutter writes from Chambers County about the 2013 swearing in at the county courthouse. She recounts being sworn in first to finish an unexpired term by County Judge Jimmy Sylvia, then for a four year term by retiring Judge Carroll Wilborn, whose gracious gesture and heartfelt flowers left her moved.
