Chevron Phillips Chemical on Monday filed initial regulatory steps with the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality to study a 20 percent expansion of its normal alpha olefins capacity at the Cedar Bayou complex in Baytown. The site already houses a 250,000 metric tons per year on purpose 1 hexene plant. The firm notes NOAs broaden use in polyethylene, lubricants and specialty applications. Spokesperson Melanie Samuelson says the NOA plant remains central to the site and job impact is unknown at this stage. The company currently employs 645 workers and 400 to 5090 contractors.
Melissa Martinez is appointed assistant superintendent for curriculum and instruction at Goose Creek CISD. She previously held the same post for four years at Sharyland ISD in Mission, with a career tracing back to teaching roles in Harlingen, Mission, and La Joya, culminating as elementary curriculum coordinator and executive director for curriculum.
Janiece M. Longoria was appointed chairman of the Port Commission of the Port of Houston Authority by joint action of Harris County Commissioners Court and the Houston City Council. She replaces James T. Edmonds, who did not seek reappointment, and will also chair the Board of Pilot Commissioners for Harris County Ports. Corgey fills Longoria seat and brings union leadership background.
